Tromba

Thu Oct 8, 2009, 5:14 PM
  • Mood: Neutral
  • Listening to: The constant buzz of my PC powersupply
  • Reading: Science Fiction short stories lend by a friend
  • Watching: A big dark outside my window
  • Playing: Indie Game: Wierd worlds return to infinite space
  • Eating: a lot less. Yay!
  • Drinking: Water from a way too old canister
I recently witnessed the entire "instant-storm" process that around here its called a Tromba. A moment when the sky kinda snaps its ropes and all the water in the sky falls down to earth, with dangerous and amuzing consequences.
It started two days ago. 29 degrees celcius according to the weather guy, although they felt like 33 :sun: ! Around here hot days are not unusual, what's unusual its to have a hot day in between the rainy season, so each person in town kinda knew that such thermonuclear heat wave was just a prelude to something equally giant.
Then last night, while all the city slept with open windows to stand the heat, a storm punched out of the blue. Night storms are the hardest to describe as all you know is that a second ago you're sleeping peacefully and a second later the shit hits the fan  , A huge thunder wakes you and you realise its already too late. You've gotta run to close all the open windows and maybe misstep a time or two because of all the water that's already in the floor =P . After the flooding its controlled, you just return to bed and sleep as if nothing happened, damage status has to be delayed until morning.
A new day arises and everything seems the same, just... "wetter" :O . Then its about 3pm, and for some reason you've gotta go outside and cross the entire city on bus. As you leave your house there's something... odd, about the scene. Its almost midday and yet, the street lights are on, cars pass by with their lights on, and you feel like it's 7pm already.
You can almost hear the sky mumbling its evil plans to itself as you walk faster and faster towards the bus stop. The street its empty and you wonder why people say the air its electrified before a storm, you don't feel anything.
A step inside the bus stop, and hell brokes loose. The initial small rain lasts seconds, followed shorty by a medium sized rain, and another second later, huge, fat, cold drops of water start falling as if you were a minuature in a shower all of a sudden.
Turning around the dry island your bus stop is, you realise people suddenly wear raincoats and umbrellas, even when you saw them in summer clothes minutes ago. The concrete and asphalt its wet, you look around for a second to see the bus stop roof, and the moment you turn your sight back to the street, it has suddenly transformed into a river of water. How did it changed in a second from wet street to the Nile? Who knows, but now there's a huge body of water next to you, and that bus racing towards you its ejecting a brown wave from the wheels, approaching fast.
You of course, wanna get the hell out of there, but you're inside the bus stop, its already a miracle you're not soaking wet. So as you compare your options, something insides you makes the note to ask for a car ride next time...

In general, I think a lot, and live with the side effects of it. I usually plan ahead and act cautiously. Skepticism its my sidekick, and diversity, the lens I see the world through. I study how objects are made, and what people do with them. I live on the outskirt of things, away from trouble, but also, away from solutions. I guess the world its too complicated for our too simple minds. I try to treat things on their right dimension, which its that's hard considering that we're yet to invent the ruler.
